My aim is to help people feel safe, calm and relaxed and become aware of their inner strengths. Therapy is designed to support you in understanding that we have many resources within our unconscious mind and that these resources can be put to good use in resolving problems. Prior to commencing therapy a detailed assessment is made with each client, to personalise a treatment plan.
In all hypnotherapy sessions I teach people techniques they can continue to use at home. This means that you can play an active part in managing your problems in between sessions. Learning how to respond to stress and life challenges can be an especially helpful skill for the majority of people.
Hypnosis is a way of helping people to feel very relaxed and to respond to suggestions and ideas that will help them. This happens by accessing that part of the brain concerned with our creativity, memories and emotions. This part of the brain is called the unconscious mind. During hypnotherapy, the busy, active, conscious mind becomes much less attentive; allowing for the creative and intuitive side of the brain to be more receptive to receiving suggestions for solving problems or difficulties.
Whilst many people report feeling “ comfortably dreamy”, hypnosis is not the same as being asleep. When you are asleep, you are not aware what’s happening around you. In a hypnotic state you are fully aware of what’s happening around you, but things seem to fade into the background and tend not to matter at all. If you have ever been “lost in a good book” or “been daydreaming”, you have more than likely been in a state of hypnosis.
During hypnosis you will be completely in control. You will not lose consciousness or unknowingly reveal personal information. During your hypnotherapy session you will be talking with the therapist and will not lose awareness of your surroundings at anytime.
As a guide, three sessions of hypnotherapy are recommended, although some people may require more sessions. During the first session the therapist will ask you some questions about your general health and about the reasons why you have sought hypnotherapy as a treatment option. After this you will be invited to make yourself comfortable in a chair or sofa so that the therapist can guide you into a relaxed state. Many people find the process of going into a state of hypnosis both easy and relaxing and your therapist will teach you an easy way to do this, so that you can practice at home.
Subsequent sessions focus on the specific issues which are causing you problems or difficulties or maybe the things you wish to change about yourself. In these sessions, the therapist will use specific techniques to help you and your unconscious mind find a resolution to your difficulties.
I deliver hypnotherapy sessions in your own home. Nothing special is required, just a comfortable chair or sofa in a place where you will not be disturbed or interrupted.
